08 Jun California High-Speed Rail Update: Faster Than a Speeding Bullet? Maybe Not.

The construction of California’s High-Speed Rail project, which first received stimulus funding in 2009, seems to be moving at an ironically slow pace. In fact, just two weeks ago the Obama administration approved a contract revision that pushed back the railway’s completion date to 2022, four years later than originally projected.

Despite this recent delay, construction on the project still continues to move forward at a steady pace.  Politico notes that half a dozen crews are already working on demolishing structures and relocating utilities all the way from Fresno to Bakersfield.   And, eminent domain lawsuits have already been filed by the High Speed Rail Authority to acquire right-of-way along the proposed route.  In fact, our law firm currently represents many property and business owners whose property is being acquired for the project in eminent domain lawsuits filed in Madera and Fresno Counties.

Because of this apparent “hurry up and wait” situation, it is critical that those who own or rent property within the proposed pathway for the railway use their time wisely to understand how they will be affected by this project and exactly what their rights are.
